CSSTidy Changelog
2026-10-11 — String limits documented from measured output
Ran the tool against its own source to find where the textual rewriter breaks, and wrote the results down instead of leaving them implicit. Two reproduce:
- Tidy splits a
}sitting inside a quoted string.content: "}"becomes a closed block followed by a stray quote. - Minify deletes comment-looking text inside a string.
content: "x/*y*/z"becomescontent:"xz", losing two characters of content.
Minify handles the first case correctly; tidy handles the second. They fail on opposite sides of one blind spot: neither pass can see a string literal, because neither one parses.
No transform changed. A fix that skips quoted spans is possible and is on the list, but it belongs alongside tests that check output — not as a quiet edit to a tool people paste into.
2026-10-08 — Sitemap and indexing scope
Sitemaps now generate from build output and list only domains that are actually registered. Unregistered sibling tools were appearing in sitemaps pointing at nothing.
2026-10-07 — Pro tips panel
Added a Pro Tips & Gotchas panel covering comment-in-string breakage, the IE whitespace hacks, and why no formatter here sorts rules — source order is semantics in CSS.
2026-10-06 — Contrast fixes
Muted text and the primary button's hover state both failed contrast in the dark theme. Fixed both; the button was the worse case, going near-invisible against its own background on hover.
2026-10-05 — Shared footer
Applied the monorepo's shared footer grid so every static tool links to the others consistently. Before this, each app carried a hand-written footer that drifted.
2026-10-01 — Build output untracked
dist/ stopped being committed; CI regenerates it before deploy. Repo hygiene, no effect on the page.
2026-09-15 — Launch
Initial version: beautify, minify, sample paste, copy output, live character counts, all client-side. The deployment workflow for all eighteen sibling tools landed the same day.
